Programs at the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center

The Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center offers innovative programs that incorporate the best practices in early childhood education. The rich research-based curriculum is designed to help every child achieve developmental milestones in early literacy, problem solving, emotional quotient, and social acumen.  But what makes this curriculum work is the expertise of our staff. All staff members participate in continuing education with regular on-going professional development. Working with children in small groups and individually, our staff helps children gain the self-confidence they need to explore their worlds, discover their own creativity and become instilled with a love of learning.

Additional enrichment activities are an important part of the curriculum at every age level. Fine art projects reinforce weekly themes and build observational and motor skills. A bi-weekly music program instills rhythm, movement, singing and instrument playing. Physical fitness classes are held three times a week, and swimming classes at the East Hampton YMCA and yoga lessons are available.

All of our programs focus on developing the whole child – emotionally, socially and cognitively. Since children learn through play, play is an essential part of every day for every child. All activities are focused, yet fun and developmentally appropriate. Each classroom is stocked with puzzles, games, dramatic play areas, art supplies and more. Outdoor play areas are stocked with age-appropriate equipment.

We offer a special camp during the summer months – The Sandpiper Summer FUN Program – so that working families in our area can have the support they need at the time of year when they need it most.

For more information about our programs or to schedule a tour of our facility, please call Maureen Wikane, Director, at 631-324-5560.
