Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center (formerly East Hampton Day Care Learning Center) is the only not-for-profit educational organization providing full-day, year-round child care in East Hampton. It offers programs for pre-school children ages 18 months to five years. The Center serves a diverse community and is located adjacent to the John Marshall Elementary School in the Village of East Hampton.

At the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, children learn, explore and create. Our rich research-based curriculum is designed to help every child achieve developmental milestones in early literacy, problem solving, emotional quotient and social acumen. All of these are critical to future academic success.

Since 1969 the Center has provided young children with exceptional learning opportunities in a safe, nurturing environment. Thanks to tuition, grants, foundations, generous donors and fundraising efforts the Center offers year-round day care at reasonable fees for working parents with financial assistance available upon request.

Investment in our children is an investment in our future.

The Center welcomes and encourages volunteerism. Social workers and community representatives volunteer their time to work with children and parents. Local high school students volunteer as part of their community service requirements.

The Center is opened year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 5:30pm, offering flexible schedules for working parents.

    Partnering with the Community

The Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center is a not-for–profit organization that is a national model of community collaboration in education. The Town of East Hampton, East Hampton Union Free School Distirct, Wainscott School District, parents, private donors and foundations all work together to fund this important community resource that has an annual budget of 1.3 million dollars.  About 25% of our revenue comes from parent fees, the remainder comes from tuition reimbursement, grants and tax-deductible charitable donations. It is through the continuing generosity of community support that the fees remain low without sacrificing quality. A limited number of scholarships are available. This partnership makes us all strong.  Investment in our children is investment in our future.

The Center is dependent on the generosity of its donors. Charitable gifts are tax-deductible. A detailed audited statement is available for review upon request. For more information, call Maureen Wikane at (631) 324-5560.
